Runners
and walkers alike braved cold winds and rain
to support the 23rd Annual Youth Villages 5K
held Saturday, April 23rd. Despite the weather,
spirits were high as the 5K participants took
to the streets winding through one of East Memphis'
most scenic, park-like neighborhoods before
finishing up at the Ridgeway Center. A consistent
supporter of Youth Villages, Cornerstone had
volunteers signed up in two different categories:
Chad Clay (running) and Sheryl Barton/Cindy
Dougherty (walking). Cold winds continued throughout
the post-race award ceremony but the results
of the event kept everyone warm. Over the past
22 years the race has raised over $1 million
for the programs and children at Youth Villages.
Programs that include residential treatment,
home-based counseling, therapeutic foster care,
adoptions and outpatient services to over 5,000
children and their families each year. Youth
Villages has been recognized nationally as a
model in the treatment of troubled children
and their families.
