Greetings,
As
some of you know, Cornerstone supports
various charities and worth while causes
throughout the United States. Recently
we took steps to put an inter-city youth
through a local private high school for
all four years, including books, clothes
as needed, and money for field trips and
other costs that might be difficult to
pay for. This youth was carefully screened,
and along with a great academic background
has a sincere desire for the best education
possible. A desire on his families part
is also crucial. Most private schools
are in the suburbs, and overcoming the
travel logistics can be difficult, but
we feel that the family has the commitment
to make this possible.
We
have formed a committee, headed up by
my wife and several others in our family
and the company to actively seek out similar
situations where Cornerstone can make
a difference in a young person's life.
Our goal is to be instrumental in helping
further the education of qualified, but
disadvantaged youths in our corporate
headquarters' home town.
In
addition to the above, I have financially
supported Youth Villages here in Memphis.
For more than 17 years, Youth Villages
has strived to provide the best care to
emotionally-troubled children and their
families. The private, nonprofit organization
has developed an array of nationally-recognized
programs and services using empirically-validated
treatment models to offer children and
their families their best chance for long
term success.
Besides
financial support, which I am now happy
to report is being given by Cornerstone,
they also need volunteers to get involved
with the kids and their families. I am
asking any of you here at Memphis to look
at getting involved in their various programs.
Helping the less fortunate is something
many, if not most of us would like to
do. Finding a way to do it sometimes is
confusing and a little daunting. For those
of you interested, please let Sheryl Barton
know and she will arrange for more information
to be given to you along with a tour of
the facilities. Many of you know Mike
Bruns with Comtrak. He and his company
have been long time supporters, and I
know the joy that many of his people have
gained in helping those less fortunate
than themselves. Many of you have friends
at Comtrak, and may already have helped
out in some way. I just wanted to let
you know that Youth Villages is being
supported by Cornerstone and I would love
to have many of you involved as well.
