DeNeuville
Learning Center held its Second Annual Golf
Tournament at Wedgewood Golf Club on September
11, 2004. Volunteer Sheryl Barton (Memphis)
offered a helping hand behind the scenes working
both the check-in table and driving the beverage
cart. Offering both manpower and monetary support,
Cornerstone is proud to be a sponsor of this
very worthwhile organization.
DeNeuville Learning Center, a program under
the House of the Good Shepherd of Memphis, is
run by volunteers, staff and the Sisters of
the Good Shepherd. The purpose of the DeNeuville
Learning Center is to guide women in learning
the skills needed to make positive choices for
themselves and their families. It is accomplished
through education, counseling, and promoting
ways to enhance one’s self worth and dignity.
DeNeuville offers classes in computer hardware
and software, GED, English as a Second Language,
business skills, parenting, and arts and crafts
such as sewing and quilting. In addition, DeNeuville
also provides counseling services and assists
women with childcare, transportation, and emergency
needs. The student population at DeNeuville
consists of women from diverse countries, cultures,
and backgrounds.
"They didn't tell me what I didn't
know. They showed me what I could learn."
