Always
eager to help out at work, at home and in the
community, Shirley Britton (Cornerstone –
Memphis, TN) didn’t miss a beat when the
Memphis Grizzlies announced that they needed
applicants to form their inaugural fan advisory
board. Memphis is the first in the NBA to try
this concept and, as always, “Miss Shirley”
jumped on board to help out. If the Memphis
fan advisory board is successful, other NBA
locations may implement similar programs as
well.
The
advisory board is a group of fans who are encouraged
to provide feedback and new ideas to aid in
the development and growth of the Grizzlies
and FedEx Forum, and to help make the fan experience
more enjoyable and service oriented. After receiving
400 applications, 40 members were chosen that
represent a cross-section of the Grizzlies fan
base, from six year ticket holders to single
game ticket buyers. Meetings will take place
several times a year at the FedEx Forum and
topics will include general concessions, service
issues, game presentation, promotions, and community
involvement. The goal is to make each game a
great experience. “So far we have had
two meetings” said “Miss Shirley”.
“Management has been very receptive to
what everyone had to say and have implemented
some of the suggestions. They are hoping to
increase the number of spectators who come to
the games and want to try everything possible
to accomplish this.”
Cornerstone
is proud of “Miss Shirley” and her
participation in this inaugural community program.
