Community Involvement - Cornerstone Donates Much Needed Blood in the Wake of Katrina

Ken Hall, Director of Corporate Relations for Lifeblood Mid-South Regional Blood Center, sang strong praises for Cornerstone when employees in the Memphis, TN office (Corporate Headquarters) lined up to donate blood on Wednesday, September 7. Organized quickly by Cindy Dougherty, employees in every department rallied to donate a total of 25 units of blood targeted specifically for Katrina evacuees and patients. Cornerstone can be very proud that approximately 33-35% of the office participated when the usual participation rate is around 10-15%. Special thanks to all participants: Rick Rodell, Andrea Martin, Jessica Greene, Mary Beth Marino, Shirley Britton, Matthew Bryan, Whitney Cummings, Wayne Hamm, Leann Sowell, Paul Selph, Stan Billings, Sheryl Barton, Anita Vidal, Vicki Wood, Dana Eubank, Sheryl Wade, Kimberly Fleming, Christina Joyner, Opel Bunn, Emily Barrett, John Van Nortwick, Bob Cook, Joy Lawrence, Jon Ward, Ed Weaver, Mike Cathcart, Karen Cook, Staci Holland, David Munns, Teresa Kennard, and Robert Acuff.

Lifeblood donors in the Mid-South provide half of the necessary units of blood used by local hospitals. The other half must be imported from other blood centers throughout the country. The devastation of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath has multiplied and increased the need for blood donors to come forward both locally and nationally. Cornerstone is proud to support Lifeblood and their efforts. For more information please call 1-888-lifeblood or visit www.lifeblood.org
