Tim Clay Named President Of Intermodal Logistics Firm

Executives of Cornerstone Systems, a Memphis-based intermodal transportation company, announced the appointment of a new president and chief financial officer.

Tim Clay was promoted to president. He has been with Cornerstone Systems since its founding in April, 1997. In addition to his post as president Mr. Clay will continue to serve as chief operating officer, a position he has held since October, 1997.

Rick Rodell, former president and founder of the company, will become chairman and retain the position of chief executive officer.

"Tim is uniquely qualified to take control of the daily operations of our growing company in a changing industry," said Mr. Rodell. "I am confident that he will help ensure that our customer service and revenue goals continue to be achieved."

A Certified Public Accountant and graduate of the University of Memphis, Mr. Clay also served as Cornerstone System’s chief financial officer upon joining the company. His background includes over 16 years of transportation industry experience.

Mr. Rodell also announced that Pat Nieman has been promoted from controller to the position of chief financial officer. Mr. Nieman has served as controller since joining Cornerstone Systems in May, 1997.

"The restructuring and promotions are designed for Cornerstone to increase accountability in two areas critical to our success: sales and operations," said Mr. Rodell. "By streamlining the lines of authority, we should be better positioned to integrate responsiveness from not only sales and operations, but accounting and technology as well."

As CEO, Mr. Rodell will continue to regularly visit Cornerstone’s offices nationwide with the intent of seeking out new alliances, services and products. He will concentrate on spending time with customers and vendors while exploring new technologies and operating methods.

Cornerstone Systems, along with its sister company Cornerstone Logistics, has exceeded $100 million in sales in less than five years. The company has 25 offices nationwide including a recently opened transloading facility in Austin, Texas, serving the paper and lumber industry.

Cornerstone has 165 employees, including 65 located in its Memphis headquarters at 5101 Wheelis Drive.
