Flashy
show cars and happy feet brought smiles to little
children and event organizers at the GSF Foundation
Walk-a-Thon held Saturday, September 30. With
a reputation for achieving high goals, the award
winning Suffolk, Virginia Golden State Foods
(GSF) Foundation Center once again pulled out
the stops and raised over $5000. Several show
cars added excitement as the walkers raised
money. “Grandma’s Racer”,
driven and owned by Anna & Collis Bryant
(Cornerstone - Portsmouth, VA), shined brightly
as the feature show car. Racing primarily in
Virginia and North Carolina, the famed viper
red car has competed in events as far north
as New Jersey and as far south as Georgia. Sponsored
by Cornerstone Systems, the car has been featured
in issues of High Performance Mopar and Mopar
Muscle magazines.
All
proceeds from the walk-a-thon go directly to
the GSF Foundation itself. The GSF foundation
partners with local children's charities nominated
by GSF employees. These selected organizations
receive strategic financial assistance along
with hours and hours of support from GSF volunteers.
This hand-on help effectively serves children
with various needs (food, shelter, clothes,
medical treatment, social activities, etc.)
and helps a variety of worthy organizations
and individuals throughout the country (Special
Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ronald McDonald
House Charities, Shoes That Fit and more.) The
Suffolk, VA Center has issued grants to the
Ronald McDonald House, the Suffolk Children’s
Center, the March of Dimes, the Food Banks Hot
Meals program, the Edmark Hospice for Children
and the Make a Wish Foundation.
